Summer

For the avid golfer, the Rhinelander Northwoods Golf Course, two miles west on Highway 8, offers a challenging 18 hole course that any golfer would enjoy.  They provide everything you'll need to enjoy a day on the course including:  a clubhouse with large bar, restaurant with an excellent menu and variety, pro shop, and golf range.

A trip to Rhinelander wouldn't be complete without a day on the lake.  Boom Lake is one of the most popular lakes in the area.

It's perfect for fishing, skiing, swimming, or jet-skiing.  Hodag Park, located directly on the shores of Boom Lake, has a boat ramp, picnic facilities, playground, beach. and it also hosts the Hodag Water Ski Show.  You can even reach Hodag Park from Oaken Bucket by boat.  If you're around on the Fourth of July, you may even want to head down to the park in your boat and watch the fireworks directly overhead from the lake!

There are also many other lakes in the Rhinelander area that have beautiful beaches and picnic facilities.  The Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce on Highway 8 West can provide you with lots of information on the area lakes and other attractions going on during your stay.  They have a beautiful facility and you can even come face-to-face with the legendary Hodag!

One of the biggest draws to Rhinelander is the Hodag Country Festival which is held the second week of July.  Oaken Bucket is only ten minutes away from from the festival grounds.  Thousands of people come each year to hear big name country starts as well as talented local bands.  Make sure you bring a cooler of your favorite beverage, lawn chairs, and sunscreen and plan on a weekend of great country music.

For the avid Fisherman, Thunder and Boom Lakes, and Lake Creek - all accessible from the cottages by boat - provide excellent fishing.  We have excellent musky, northern pike, and bass (both largemouth and smallmouth.  There's also good walleye, bluegill, and crappie fishing.  In fact, some of the lakes best crappie and bluegill spots are within sight of the docks.  We'll be glad to give you ideas where to fish, or get you in touch with one of the many local guides to get you onto some great fishing.  For season dates and regulations, check out the Web page for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

Rhinelander also has lots of great places to visit for a night out on the town.  There are many good restaurants that serve everything from pizza to a full T-Bone dinner.  You may choose from from places right on the lake with a beautiful view, to downtown locations, close to the action.  Rhinelander has a brand new six-cinema theatre located on Lincoln street as well as the original one on Brown street.

If shopping is what you enjoy, you'll want to visit the East Pointe Centre, Riverwalk Mall, Lincoln Plaza, and the downtown area.  Rhinelander also has Wal-Mart, K-Mart, ShopKo, and JC Penney's, as well as many other small, local retailers.
